rather surprising news from the democratic leader in the senate, senator harry reid. following two days of angry response from california senator dianne feinstein, she had been very publicly disappointed and angry harry reid was not going move her assault weapons ban to the senate floor as part of the democrats gun reform package. after two days of defiant reaction from senator dianne feinstein and supporters of gun reform and vice president biden made an appearance with mayor michael bloomberg demanding the assault weapons ban gets a vote, saying that neither he or the president will rest until these measures are pursued. tonight, senator harry reid responded saying i will ensure a ban on assault weapons and limits on high capacity magazines receive votes. he also announced he would start the process of moving gun reform legislation to the floor of the senate as of tonight. the exact contours of the bill are still uncertain, including the question of what's going to end up in the base bill and acted on in the form of amendments and when the actual voting will begin given he starte

that segment with a sound bite from senate majority leader democrat harry reid expressing his condolences. but also during that statement, there was an implication there that under sequestration, when budgets are cut, that we may see more of these that it may put the marines and others and soldiers at risk because of the budget cuts. now i can tell you, marine corps officials this afternoon are taking a strong exception to what harry reid implied. saying that this this exercise, for example, was planned well in advance, had nothing to do with the budget cuts. there were no corners cut. and if they couldn't afford to have all the safety precautions into place, they wouldn't do the exercise. and in fact, one marine corps told us just, one marine corps official told us a short time ago, he considers this nothing but pure political posturing on the backs of these dead marines. >> those are some very strong words from the marine corps about senator harry reid, jim miklaszewski thank you soef for being on the program. >>> tonight president obama boards air force one to go to the mid

states senate was unable to do. dianne feinstein's ban did not pass on the floor vote because harry reid decided they were not going it to put it in their gun bill that they're going to put on the floor. it's an assaults weapons ban. over 200 weapons are still available to americans. but no, this was not good enough. the reason was because reid and other democratic senators were afraid of how it would play. max baucus of montana jon tester of montana. mark begich of ark heidi keitkamp and joe maughan. they're running scared. if they all band together and said you know what we're going to do this, they would be with the american people. it turns out this time they were not with the american people. and then of course "abc news" washington poll post conducted march 7th shows 57% of americans support assault weapons ban. 41% oppose it. 57% of americans support it. why cannot the senate get that through their heads? why can't they sit there and say, you know what, this is what the people want. let's vote on it. 57 is the smallest majority for any of these gun laws. we've heard 91%--91% are in favor
